In partnership with the Veterans Coordination Commission, we are pleased to present the July 2008 Veteran of the Month Recognition to Frank J. Jones. Frank Jones began his military career in 1963, joining the United States Army at the age of 22. Frank served five tours in Germany and two tours in Vietnam. While in Germany, he trained with the German Army and received a shooting award and a German Sports Award. Frank spent two years in the transportation field and eighteen years in the military police field. During his tours in Vietnam, he received the Army Commendation Medal for each tour in addition to the Good Conduct Medal with 4 cluster, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 6 stars, Non-Commissioned Officers Development Medal with 2 clusters, Overseas Service Medal with 4 clusters, Army Service Ribbon and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Frank Jones is a man of many talents and a big heart when it comes
to helping veterans and their families. Frank is the Veterans Affairs
Volunteer Services Representative at Ft. Meade V.A. Hospital and runs
the 'comfort room'. Frank and his deputy representatives, order personal
care items and provides them free of charge to all veteran patients.
He raises the money to buy these items through funds received by the
DAV, other veteran organizations and private donations. Frank works
at the Volunteer Desk at Ft. Meade and is a past DAV transportation
driver. He was recently recognized for 7500 volunteer hours from the
Veterans Affairs Director. Frank is the chief cook for the Rapid City
Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 during many meals provided for
veterans and their families on special occasions.
